Corrie star Mikey ties the knot

A Scarborough actor who made it big on soap opera Coronation Street has tied the knot.

Mikey North, who plays troublemaker Gary Windass on the ITV soap, married fiancée Rachael Isherwood in a rustic barn in Shrawley, Worcestershire, in front of 100 guests on Friday January 29.

Mikey’s family, who are mainly from the north travelled down to Shrawley, which is not far from Rachael’s family home.

The pair’s rustic and traditional country wedding saw Rachael wear a fishtail gown with a low cut back while Mikey wore a dark navy tailed suit with an ivory cravat.

The couple also opted for a not so traditional cheese cake for their wedding. The layers of different cheeses were layered like a traditional cake and decorated with fruit.

Proud mum, Karen North spoke of the emotional day she watched her son tie the knot.

“It was great, we really enjoyed it. It was nice to see everybody and the wedding was very overwhelming and emotional.

“It was in a lovely, old granary barn. There was wooden beams and it had a quite rustic look. It was a lovely venue for a wedding,” she said.

The couple had been dating for two years before Mikey popped the question while they were on holiday in the Lake District for Rachael’s 30th birthday.

Karen added: “She’s a lovely girl, we love her to bits. They’re a really good couple together.”

The couple have recently returned from their honeymoon - a week in the Maldives.

“It looks like paradise they loved it, they absolutely loved it. But it’s back to work for them now.”

A former Scarborough Sixth Form College student, Mikey, who is originally from Cayton, was represented by an agent at just 18 years old.

His first professional job was in a play called Bottle Universe on the West End. For this he was awarded Best Newcomer by the British Theatre Guide and his career took off.

The 29-year-old first appeared on the streets of Weatherfield in 2008.

Stars of the show joined the couple on the day including Sair Khan, Debbie Rush, Bruno Langley and Cherylee Houston.
