Increased safety measures introduced at Scarborough Fair to ensure everyone has an 'enjoyable' visit
Scarborough Fair will return to William Street Coach Park from Wednesday September 25 until Saturday September 28.
The popular funfair will open at 5pm on Wednesday, 3pm Thursday, 5pm Friday and 1pm Saturday, closing at 10.30pm each night.

Ahead of the event, police in Scarborough have spoken about increased safety measures to ensure all those who attend have a good time.
They have worked with the organisers, who this year have introduced an increased security presence.

This includes:
• Metal detector wands being used at the gates.
• Bag searches
• Refusal for those who may be under the influence of alcohol or substances.
• A safe zone within the fair, for medical concerns, lost children, or a time out from the excitement.
• The toilets, which are usually outside of the venue, will now be inside the security fence perimeter.
• Security will wear body-worn video.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are expecting another good turnout over the four days, and we will be with you every step of the way this year.
“Our Mobile Police Office will be stationed outside of the fair. Drop by to have a chat if you need to see us.
“We are there to reassure our communities and to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
“Last year, we had complaints from residents nearby about anti-social behaviour from those leaving the venue.
“We even had complaints about people urinating in residents' yards and gardens.
“We will be using our dispersal powers this year again for those found to be acting in an anti-social manner and needing to leave the area.
“This could result in parents being called for under 18's.
“We can't influence the weather, but we do hope you have a safe and enjoyable visit to the fair.”
