Officers received reports of a number of "youths or young adults" trespassing in the grounds of Pickering Castle outside of business hours.

Police are concerned for the safety of the trespassers, who entered by climbing the ruined walls.

Trespassing is a civil offence, however, damage caused within the castle grounds is a criminal offence and offenders may be arrested and prosecuted.

A police spokesperson said: "If you see anyone climbing the walls to enter the grounds, please 101."

Last month, vandals carved obscenities into a wooden door at the entrance to the castle.
