Police were alerted to a wanted vehicle at Staxton by automatic number plate recognition cameras (ANPR).

The ANPR system flashed up the registration plate of a blue Ford and officers caused it to stop.

On its Facebook page, the North Yorkshire Roads Policing Group said the car was linked to a violent incident in York.

The black BMW

The post says: “Occupant of this car (blue Ford) located & detained after violent incident in #York & having fled in the car towards Scarborough - thanks to @NypAnpr for the great spot.”

In a separate incident, officers’ attention was drawn to a speeding black BMW, which also had a dirty number plate.

When officers stopped the car they smelled cannabis and the driver was arrested.

It got worse for the driver when he was found to have no insurance and the car was seized.
