They said: “Between Monday, December 1 and Wednesday, December 31, officers from our Roads Policing Unit carried out 1,458 breath tests and 94 drug tests.

"Across the force, through both these proactive operations and routine duties, officers arrested 89 people for drink driving, 66 for drug driving. while 11 individuals failed to provide a specimen.”

Inspector John Rickells, from the force’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “My officers will be out across the force area conducting roadside testing alongside their usual duties to ensure our roads remain safe for all motorists. “The message is clear: any amount of drink or drugs affects your driving. It’s never worth the risk. “Enforcement takes place all year round, not just during the festive season. If you are over the limit, you will be arrested, no excuses.”
