Scalby Road incident: Man is arrested on suspicion of criminal damage

A man taken to hospital after an incident in which police had to shut Scarborough's Scalby Road yesterday has been arrested.

The 30-year-old man, described as "vulnerable" by police, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in the early hours of this morning and is in police custody.

Officers shut Scalby Road for several hours yesterdayand specially-trained police negotiators were called, along with armed police.

They said they had been called at 9am to deal with the incident involving a vulnerable man at a property on Scalby Road.

It is understood the incident happened at the Nathan Court block of flats, and that other residents in the block were evacuated.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment once the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.
