Scarborough man, 29, arrested after car stolen from driveway

A 29-year-old man was arrested after police officers responded to a report from a resident in the Scarborough area about a vehicle being stolen from their driveway.

The incident was reported last night (Nov 27) but officers quickly spotted the vehicle being driven away from Scarborough.

North Yorkshire Police said: “After noticing our presence, the driver sped off, colliding with a parked car in the process.

“Although the car was lost from sight, our officers remained determined and relocated it abandoned on Main Street.”

A 29-year-old man from Scarborough was found nearby in possession of a balaclava, Xanax, cannabis, and an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) device.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft, dangerous driving and possession of Class B and Class C drugs.

Once in custody, he was also further arrested for cultivating a Class B drug after a cannabis grow was located at a property earlier this month.

He currently remains in custody for questioning.
