Scarborough man who took 'aggressive stance' against police constable while drunk is fined in court

A man who resisted a police constable while under the influence of alcohol has been dealt with by the court.

Nathan Bevan, of Esplanade Gardens, Scarborough, was caught banging on the door of a property on Manham Hill, Eastfield, at around 10.15pm on December 20 2019.

Martin Butterworth, prosecuting, said the 37-year-old, who had been drinking for the first time in nine weeks, took “an aggressive stance” when approached by a police constable who was trying to arrest him.

When other officers arrived, Bevan was taken into custody and charged with obstructing a constable in the execution of duty and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Bevan admitted both charges at Scarborough Magistrates Court.

Bob Vining, defending, said Bevan “came off the wagon in grand style” and was “upset” about the incident.

Bevan, who has a previous conviction dating back to 2015, was ordered to pay a fine of £80, a £32 surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
