Prosecutor Stephanie Hancock said the robbers took cash from the male victim during the incident on October 31 last year.

“The level of violence caused the victim serious harm,” added Ms Hancock.

She said that initial medical reports indicated a fracture to the victim’s eye socket.

David Camidge, solicitor advocate for both defendants, asked for an adjournment before sentence which was set for March 6.

Judge Paul Worsley QC said: “This man had a fractured eye socket.

"It could be a very serious matter for both of you.”

Smedley and Tasker, who appeared calm and cocksure during the brief hearing, were remanded in custody until the sentence hearing.
