The aircraft came down at around 9.40am this morning and is based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, where it is part of 48th Fighter Wing.

One pilot was on board and the exercise was a routine one.

48th Fighter Wing released a statement confirming the crash.

The 48th Fighter Wing is the US Air Force's only F-15 fighter wing based in Europe. Almost 6,000 military personnel are attached to the unit.
