Police officers in Whitby have received reports of a scam caller pretending to be from HMRC.

On Thursday evening, police received 'numerous' calls reporting phone scams.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said: "The caller states they are from HMRC and that you owe money in unpaid Tax.

"Please be advised these phone calls are fake and HMRC would never contact you via the telephone. Please do not be pressured into sending any money as a result of these phone calls.

"If you believe there is a possibility you owe tax you can find contact details for HMRC on their website."
