A 13-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after a resident in the Falsgrave area of Scarborough was alerted by her doorbell camera to movement in her back garden.

Upon reviewing the footage in the early hours of this morning (Nov 28), the woman noticed a suspect attempting to access her shed.

Police say she confronted the individual, who fled the scene.

Upon inspection, she found the shed door ajar but nothing taken.

Officers quickly located a 13-year-old boy nearby, wearing clothing that matched the description from the CCTV footage.

The individual was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and remains in police custody for questioning.

North Yorkshire Police say the incident serves as a timely reminder to residents to secure their property and reduce the risk of becoming a target.
