Crown Tavern walk turns 40

The walk is on Sunday April 30 and is always held the Sunday before the May Day Bank Holiday so people can have a well-earned rest.

With it being the “Ruby” anniversary this year, participants are being asked to wear red.

The 22-mile long walk starts at Hawsker Village Hall at 9.15am and follows the old Scarborough-Whitby railway line, finishing at the Crown Tavern in Scalby Road.

The eight-mile shorter walk starts from the Hayburn Wyke at 11.15am and continues along the same route.

There are trophies for youngest boy and girl, highest sponsored individual and even the biggest blister!

Dogs are welcome and there is always water for them as well as refreshments for their owners at checkpoints.

Free transport can be provided to the start of both walks – just mention that you require this on your entry form.

When walkers arrive back at the pub they will be given a free pint or non-alcoholic drink and a hot dog. There will also be live music and a raffle.

Every penny raised by walkers goes to local good causes supported by the walk, including Scarborough Disabled Swimming Group, Frame Football, Riding for the Disabled, Mencap, Epilepsy Action, Yorkshire Coast Families, and Action for Deaf Children, plus many more.
