Dramatic beach rescue at Whitby

A casualty who was injured on Whitby beach last night was winched to safety and hospital by the Coastguard's specialist rescue aircraft.

The local Whitby Coastguard Team and lifeboat crew, along with the police, were called to a report of a person injured on the beach at Whitby.

Members of the public who were at the scene helped them locate the casualty. Coastguard officers provided care and reassurance then, using a stretcher, the casualty was moved off the beach.

They recieved more care from the Ambulance Service and from there was winched aboard Coastguard Rescue 912 by hi-line transfer for onward transport to hospital.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “We wish the individual concerned a speedy recovery. Well done to all involved.”
