Eight fire engines at Levisham blaze

Fire services are attending a large fire on the North York Moors near Levisham.

Eight fire engines are believed to be at the scene, which is described as being next to the North Yorkshire Moors railway line.

The initial estimate of the size of the fire was 1,000 square metres.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that as well as the eight fire engines there are two all-terrain ‘argo cat’ vehicles.

They were called out just after 2pm.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway temporarily suspended services on the line between Goathland and Levisham.

This video footage was taken by Tom Donnelly on the last train allowed past the site.

It shows the fire taking hold on the moorside.

A spokesperson for NYMR said that fire services had requested the line block to access the fire.

The 2pm train from Whitby was held at Whitby, the 3pm service from Pickering was held there, and the 3.40pm train from Grosmont was also delayed.
