Beach near Bridlington shut after suspected phosphorus flare washes discovered
Emergency services, including Bridlington Coastguard and Explosive Ordnance Disposal, were called to Fraisthorpe Beach on Tuesday, February 4, after reports that containers and a suspected phosphorus flare had washed ashore.
For public safety, the beach was closed by the Coastguard with assistance from Humberside Police while awaiting the arrival of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

Following a multi-agency assessment, the decision was made to remove the item from the beach. The incident was safely resolved today through the joint efforts of Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, and EOD.
A Bridlington Coastguard spokesperson said: “Incidents like this highlight the importance of the public keeping a safe distance from unknown items along our coastline.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation while the beach was closed, which allowed emergency services to carry out their work safely and efficiently.”
Reminder to the public:
If you discover any unknown containers, ordnance, or suspicious items along the coastline, do not touch or approach them. Move away to a safe distance and contact the Coastguard via 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
