Firefighters called out to tackle blaze at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary charity shop in Flowergate
Firefighters were called out to a blaze this morning at the Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary charity shop on Flowergate.
Crews from Whitby, Lythe, Scarborough and Loftus were called at 9.51am to an incident involving a fire to a light fitting at the store.
Neighbouring properties were evacuated due to the amount and density of smoke.
All people in the property were accounted for on arrival of the crews.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews ventilated the property due to it being heavily smoke logged.
The ground floor suffered 20% fire damage, with smoke damage to the entire building.
Crews used breathing apparatus, thermal imaging camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan and water from two hose jet reels to tackle the incident.
