'Remaining undisturbed is essential': BDMLR urges public to stay away from seal pups on Yorkshire coast
The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) are urging people on the Yorkshire coast to stay away from resting seal pups following the recent turbulent weather.
Although seal pups are a magical sight on our coastline with many wanting to take a photo of the beautiful sea mammals, the BDMLR have advised that it is ‘vital’ that the seals are not disturbed.

A BDMLR spokesperson said: “We're aware of young pups hauling out to rest on several Yorkshire and Lincolnshire beaches after the recent storms - it's vital they are allowed to rest and not be approached for photographs or chased.
“Please give seals plenty of space and continue on your way. Remaining undisturbed is essential, helping them digest food and conserve energy instead of wasting it recovering from stress caused by human presence.
“This can be the difference between a pup thriving in the wild or needing expensive rehabilitation if they enter a downward spiral of exhaustion.
“If you see a seal you're concerned for call our 24/7 Rescue Hotline on 01825 765546.” Visit https://bdmlr.org.uk/ for further advice.
