Filey win at Staithes to boost Premier title bid

A fine all-round effort saw the visitors post 232-9, Aussie Tom Fitzgerald hitting 59, Callum Ferrie 49, Aaron Howard 36 not out and Ryan Baldry 26.

Chris Morrison (3-41) and Jeff Morrison (3-45) shone with the ball for the home side.

Paul Wilson (53), Chris Morrison (38) and Jeff Morrison (31no) gave Staithes a good chance of chasing the total down, but top bowling from Josh Dawson (4-31) and Phil Dickens (3-44) pegged them back to 185-8.

Cayton's hopes of challenging Filey were dented by a 48-run loss at Nawton Grange.

Josh Greenlay top-scored with 59, while Charlie Allott hit 42, Adam Durrant 40, Wayne Dawson 31 and Jonny Pickard 26 as Grange posted 240-8, Harry Holden taking 3-55.

Josh McNeill's 77 gave Cayton a fighting chance, while Holden (33) and Mikey Dennis (32) also dug in, but Cayton slipped to 192 all out, Tim Sharples scooping 3-47.

Thornton Dale remain rooted to the bottom of the table after a seven-wicket home loss against Mulgrave.

Dale slipped to 124 all out in 44 overs, Ady Turnbull hitting 24 to mark his first game since leaving Ebberston, Tim Hunt 35 and Andy Hill 28, while Aussie Connor Lupton snapped up a cracking 5-29.

Lupton then smashed an unbeaten 45, Andrew Wood 32 and Chris Knight 25 as Mulgrave raced to victory from only 22 overs.

Ebberston's title hopes now look to be over after their seven-wicket defeat at Scalby.

Tom Brickman (36) was the only visiting batsman to shine as they were skittled for 92 in 38.4 overs, Joe Hills taking 3-24, James Deaves 3-27 and Aussie Lachlan Cooke 2-7.

Adam Waugh's unbeaten 38 swept Scalby to victory, Frankie Beal claiming 2-24.

Forge Valley's relegation worries deepened with a seven-wicket loss at home to Heslerton.

Will Tindall hit 44 as Valley were all out for 139 from 35 overs, spinner Dan Jeminson the star man with a cracking 5-37, Toby Sercombe taking 3-40.

Paul Bowes' unbeaten 55 and Sam Triffitt (31no) steered Heslerton to victory after they had lost three early wickets.

Sherburn boosted their Division One promotion hopes with a 97-run win at home to leaders Settrington.

Craig Sanderson continued his superb form with the bat with a powerful 81, Jamie Thomson adding 53, Ben Simpson 43 and Daley Wharton 31 as the hosts amassed 277-9 from their 45 overs, Jonty Rounthwaite claiming 4-85.

George Rounthwaite (47) and Stephen Beal (41) gave the leaders hope but they were limited to 180-9 thanks to top bowling from Ben Briggs (4-38) and Thomson (3-48).

This result also boosted Ganton's title hopes, as they won by three wickets at Great Habton.

John Lumley struck 59 for Habton, while Eddie Cass added 45 and NIcky Ibbotson 31 as they were dismissed for 174, Ian Cousins bagging 3-43.

Ganton edged to victory thanks to fine work from John Bannister (34), Robbie Milner (32), Liam Cousins (32), Alistair Limb (26) and Rob Gretton (26), despite fine bowling from Jim Boyes (2-38) and Tristan Midgley (2-42).

Ganton followed this up with a 134-run win at Cloughton on Sunday.

The visitors posted 235-5 thanks to a great all-round effort, Ian Cousins top-scoring with 55, Alistair Limb smacking 50, Robbie Milner making 36, Liam Cousins adding 38 not out and Freddie Lockwood 28 not out, Jon King and Jack Hakings taking two wickets apiece.

Ricky Nock (44) and Ben Luntley (24) were the only batsmen to shine as the hosts were dismissed for 101, James Richardson snapping up a splendid 6-32 and Eddie Lockwood 2-6.

Flixton 2nds boosted their chances of beating the drop with a six-wicket home win against Brompton.

Teenage spinner Fin Ward took 4-42 and Andy Wardell 3-40 as Brompton were dismissed for 130, Ross Triffitt hitting 40 and Tom Varey 30.

Kit McCrystal's 3-24 kept Brompton in the game, but fine batting from Stu Stocks (53), Leigh Franks (29no) and Josh Till (28) secured the win for the home side.

Cloughton also boosted their chances of staying up with a six-wicket home win against second-from-bottom Scalby 2nds.

Lee Kerr hit 41 as Scalby were limited to 152-9, Matt Bishop taking 3-25 and Aaron Virr 3-42.

Ricky Nock led the home side's winning reply of 153-4 with 46, while Jack Hakings added 24 not out and Ben Luntley and Rich Ward added 24 apiece, despite fine bowling from Aidan Thomas (3-51).

Basement club Staxton 2nds' struggles continued with a 60-run loss at Wykeham.

Joe Bradshaw, a recent signing from Forge Valley, led the way with 49 for Wykeham, while youngster Max Lane hit 35, Sam Colling 33 and Ezra Pashby 25 as the home side posted 189-8, Jack Pinder taking 3-45.

Liam Scott hit 40 and Dave Williamson 24 as the visitors were dismissed for 129 in reply, Gareth Bernard bagging 2-19, Matty Vincent 2-29 and Dave Pearson 2-39.
