Between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday March 8th, members of the public can drop-in to Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum and learn how the fascinating lives of Alice Lieder (Teacher & Archaeologist), Frances Mary Richardson Currer, (Bibliophile), Thomasin Farrer, (discoverer of the Scarborough Spa waters), Henrietta Rae (Pre-Raphaelite Artist and Suffragette) and the Scottish Herring Girls, can be told through their connections with Scarborough.

Using specially researched biographies, staff and volunteers will tell the stories of how these bold, change-makers and pioneers continue to inspire.

Community Curator, Emily Nelson said: “International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to remember some of the bold women whose actions changed the Scarborough Collections, the town, and many lives.

“These women were pioneers of their time, they pushed boundaries, yet their voices have mostly been forgotten.”

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
