Firefighters called to block of flats in Queen Street after workers cut mains cable

Firefighters were called to a block of flats in Queen Street yesterday afternoon after road workers cut through a mains electricity cable.

The workers were cutting through a drainpipe and accidentally cut through a mains electricity cable at about 4.10pm yesterday.

This caused some arcing and smoke logging to the basement of a block of flats.

Crews checked the cable using a thermal imgaing camera until the arrival of the electricity board.

Firefighters checked over the basement after the electricity cable was cut.
