French connection celebrated

A Scarborough art exhibition which brings together French and English styles, reflecting the twinned communities of Scalby and Newby with a coastal town in France was officially opened by the maire of Pornic Jean-Michel Brard and Scarborough mayor Cllr Joe Plant. The twinning associations of Scalby and Newby (SANTA) and Pornic in the Pays de la Loire region have been connected for almost 30 years, and three British artists Angela and David Chalmers and Janine Baldwin and four French artists Brigitte Vanwynsberghe (known as BIVAN), Fabienne Alliou-Lucas, Cathy Lodziak and Nadya Tara have each interpreted the experience. The exhibition is at The Gallery, Woodend, until July 28, and in Pornic from September.

A dinner was held for 40 Pornic visitors and their hosts at Hackness Grange, with support from Newby & Scalby Parish Council.
