Firefighters from Lythe, Whitby and Loftus were called to put out a blaze on Staithes Lane, Staithes after two domestic garages caught fire at about 4pm on Monday.

The fire completely destroyed one garage and caused damage to the roof of the other.

The fire had spread from a controlled burning after embers set fire to hedges close to the garages.

Three fire crews were called out yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews used two hose reel jets, breathing apparatus and one 45mm jet, small tools and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the blaze.
