I contacted Scarborough Borough Council re this last year, asking if it would be possible to have the verges replaced with concrete, to be told that no plans were in place to do this.
Whilst grass verges are environmental necessary, the area of Fairfield Crescent, Newby verges are in a “mud slick” state, due to cars and vehicles parking on them.
As a great deal of families have more than one vehicle it is impossible not to park on these verges, especially if your property is on a bend in the road.
Also large pools of water are now in evidence more and more on the curbs and road, due to poor drainage?
The homeowners in this area do tend their grass verges, but for one I have given up on this.
The contracted company is supposed to cut the verges but the cutter blades are not lowered down far enough and the bit of grass that does get cut is then left to blow down the drains and all over the road.
Fieldstead Crescent off Scalby Road verges are also in a state.
Schoolchildren from Scalby School walk this way to school, and must end up with mud all over their shoes.
