Letter: Harmful effect of diesel fumes on villages

It is to be welcomed that EYMS are taking delivery of new 'low emissions' buses. However, these diesel buses will still be emitting Nitrous Oxide particles that add to the current road pollution, causing breathing problems for more people.
EYMS could have pointed the way forward by buying electric/hybrid vehicles.EYMS could have pointed the way forward by buying electric/hybrid vehicles.

Currently, there are half a dozen areas of Scarborough that have very high/dangerous levels of Nitrous Oxide, including villages such as Snainton.

EYMS could have pointed the way forward by buying electric/hybrid vehicles (as in York). Both Scarborough and North Yorkshire County Council have fleets that could be replaced by green vehicles instead of polluting diesel.

To my knowledge Scarborough and surrounding authorities do not have a single electric car charging point, despite the rise in electric cars and the number of visitors to the area.

Motorists have been conned by diesel cars, and will only make the move to green cars if local authorities and government take the issue seriously by incentivising the public.
