Letter: Neglected and forgotten site

Nice story on the Valley Gardens (Scarborough News, January 14).

It highlights that there hopefully was to be a revamp of the gardens (Evening News, September 5, 2002). I wonder why this didn’t happen?

As now it’s a near-derelict site...paths overgrown, weeds growing through the paths and flowerbeds, bins overflowing, empty beer bottles and cans all over, and this was in the height of summer.

Under the bridge the grass has gone (due to all the site buildings from the bridge repairs). Over the past two years I kept getting on to the councillor for this area and it got a quick tidy up this year. Above the duck pond was completely forgotten about and is a right state, plus due to a lack of lighting it’s a no-go area after dark.

Another sad, forgotten part of our great town.
