Letter: Site needs a '˜reboot' for 21st century

This is nothing to do with history or the destruction of a building. It is purely about providing a modern up to date holiday leisure venue to attract younger people with children to holiday in Scarborough.

Scarborough has become an old fashioned uninteresting town over the past 30 years and it seems to me that the people who want to retain the theatre are the sorts of people who would want Bud Flannigan and Max Bygraves to be reincarnated to appear there.

I overheard a conversation recently where some elderly lady citizens were wanting the theatre to be rejuvenated and booked with some nice acts, and old age pensioners be sold tickets at half price.

This town needs ‘rebooting’ and become a place for young children to come and have a good time.

At the moment the Rotunda museum with its display of fossils is often quoted as an attraction for youngsters. Who the hell wants to bring their kids 100 miles or more to see a bunch of stones with paw marks on them?

The most vocal people in this town for many years have been the old fashioned egotist that think it is their old fashioned views which are of great benefit to the town, but they are the cause of the problem not the solution.

Cllr Bastiman should be given a medal for his resolve and determination to bring the town into the 21st century instead of being castigated for his good sense.

I hope that he and his fellow positive councillors will now crack on to give us a new venue to attract a new type of young holidaymaker.
