Letters: '˜Doesn't care' attitude to its community

We recently had cause to visit all of the residents who live in the vicinity of the Weaponness Valley Development.

We discovered resentment and anger at this present council because of its contempt of this community.

Has anyone come and looked at the site being built here? It is an example of a business plan which is being delivered at all cost, disregarding the valid objections. The planning department is a joke, the university and college buildings tower over the bungalows, they look like giant warehouses and there has been no real attempt to integrate these buildings with the environment.

Features on the original plans have disappeared, ie the wild flower meadow, the pond and the cycle track as examples.

The beck now has a boom fitted across it and the residual pollution is gathered daily.

The university and college may well be what Scarborough needs but it is evident that cramming them onto this site was only for expediency.

Many people have emailed/phoned the council during the past months and received no replies, leading to a general atmosphere of this council doesn’t care.

Councillors should hang their heads in shame as none of them would want this in their back yards.
