Motorbike rider breaks leg in serious crash near Whitby

Staithes Coastguard were called to help a young man who had broken his thighbone whilst riding his motorbike.

Rescuers provided casualty care and kept the patient comfortable prior to the arrival of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Coastguards helped transport paramedics to the scene before moving the man into a land ambulance; he was then taken to James Cook Hospital.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: "We are pleased to hear that surgery on the patients femur went well and they are recovering well from their injuries."
