Mountain rescue call out for injured woman who fell from horse

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue were called out and then stood down from the incident on Saturday afternoon as an ambulance was on scene.

However, they were called again because the ambulance was struggling to make it up the uneven track at Washpit Dale near the village of Leavening in Ryedale.

Once back on site, the team transferred the casualty to a bell stretcher and then to the waiting Air Ambulance. The mountain rescue then recovered the ambulance back to the road with one of its Land Rovers. Fifteen team members were on the job for three hours.

A spokesperson said it was also the first outing for the Lyon Equipment universal stretcher wheel which helps rescues on uneven ground.
