New military role at RAF base for Whitby man
Following 10 years non-commissioned service, Wg Cd Steve Wood, commissioned in to the RAF as an admin (secretarial) officer, graduating from RAF College Cranwell in November 1998,
He spent his first tour as the Flying Wing adjutant within No6 Flying Training Wing at RAF Valley.

Hide AdThis was followed by a tour as Officer Commanding Accounts and latterly, as Unit AQdmin Officer at the UK National Support Unit in Naples.
In January 2003, he took up appointment as OC Personnel Management Flight at RAF Fylingdales.
Highlights of his career included a deployment to Afghanistan in 2010 for a six month tour to establish a UK National Support Unit for all UK members of the US Marine Corps newly-formed Regional HQ South West at Camp Leatherneck.
His main role was manpower planning across Uk and US forces.

Hide AdWg Cdr Wood was promotion to Wing Commander last summer, to take up his current post at RAF Leeming.
His wife Rachel is primary school teacher and they live with their sons Oliver, 18 and Harry, 13 in Cambridgeshire.
The son of Roger and Annette Wood of Rosedale Close, he attended Stakesby and Caedmon Schools and Whitby College. His brother Barry lives in Whitby.
One grandfather, Tom Wood, was overseer of the Whitby Gazette’s old printing office on Grape Lane and Walter Pickering a retired Merchant Navy captain.
