New name for Filey School

Filey School is to be renamed Ebor Academy Filey, the academy trust who are taking over the school have announced.

The name change signals a new start for the school, placed in special measures by school inspectors Ofsted.

The York-based Ebor Academy Trust is set to take it over, possibly as early as June 1.

Ebor’s director of education, Richard Ludlow, said: “We want to send out a clear message that Filey School is changing for the better and there is a lot to get excited about. Changing the name is just the start of a process that will transform secondary education in Filey. We are ambitious for the school and for its students.”

Parents of Year 6 children in Filey, who may have opted for secondary schools outside the town for the transition to secondary in September this year, will have the chance to change their minds, said Mr Ludlow.

“In April we will release an extra 30 places for children at the Ebor Academy Filey,” he said. “Quite rightly, parents want the very best for their children. Over the next few months, we will explain our plans to convince them that from the start of the new school year in September, the Filey academy is the right place to be.”

Mr Ludlow added: “We are a forward looking organisation which learns from each other, but also looks outwards to learn from good practice locally, nationally and internationally.

“Together we can give our children a unique learning opportunity whereby the talents and skills of children can be identified, developed and celebrated.”
