Nostalgia: Bathing machines on Scarborough's South Bay beach

A number of bathing machines can be seen on Scarborough's South Bay beach, with small fishing boats at the waters edge.

Bathing machines were rented out by operators and were pulled onto the beach by horses.

In 1901, when the legal separation of bathing areas ended the use of the machine rapidly declined and most had disappeared by the time of the First World War.
