COACH'S CORNER: We've got bags of potential at Scarborough

It has been pretty well-documented that there have been comments from Brid's captain Ryan Girking leading into Saturday's derby tie.

I really don’t pay attention to what is said in the build up to games, it doesn’t tend to add anything to what happens on the pitch.

When they talk about potential, there’s a hell of a lot of potential here too.

We have a lot of quality young players at Scarborough and if we play to near our potential we will cause them a few problems.

We’re clearly expecting a tough game, a hard-fought derby affair, they always are.

I don’t think I’ve seen a tame Scarborough-Brid game, so we know what to expect.

It took us a while to get going at West Park Leeds on Saturday after a few weeks off over the holidays.

We were a bit rusty and Leeds caught us off guard a bit.

They’ve clearly been recruiting recently, they had a few new players in their ranks and they made a big difference to them.

Credit has to go to the lads.

It’s easy to let your heads go down when you go a few points behind, but we pin-pointed a few areas we needed to improve upon in the second half and we did just that.

To use an old cliche, it was a bit of a game of two halves and we were just that little bit stronger when we were on top than they were.

We defended our line really strongly just before half-time, toughed it up, and it paid off for us in the end.

The guys showed that we can defend as well as anyone when we give it our all and get stuck into it.

The performance of Isaac Faamau was yet again a plus point for us.

When the scrum was stable he was getting some good, clean ball and he was breaking the gain line and making some good ground for us.

That’s nothing new for us, he’s been doing that since he arrived here.

We just need to get Isaac some good ball and he’ll do damage to any defence.

I hear there’s a good number booked in for Saturday’s derby clash, it would be great to see a big crowd there to cheer for the guys in what will be a tough encounter.
