Astro Dog astronomy column – what Yorkshire coast stargazers can see in night sky in April 2026
April is the first full month of Spring and when the nights begin to become a lot warmer.
Although the nights are rapidly becoming shorter and brighter, it’s still an excellent time to enjoy the night sky and the warmer air means that evenings spent outside stargazing are a lot more comfortable.
There’s plenty of celestial treats to look forward to in the night sky throughout this month, including some amazing lunar and planetary conjunctions, and the month of April also sees the first major meteor shower in almost four months – the Lyrid meteor shower.
