LEE DOUGLAS: Sluggish start proves costly at Wath

When we turned up on Saturday it was touch and go whether the game would go ahead due to the state of the pitch.

But we got on with it and the home side adapted to the muddy surface better than we did, it seemed like we were still on the bus for the opening stages.

They managed to get a couple of tries for a deserved lead, but we rallied and became more confident, only for the dismissal of Taylor Smith to make our job much harder.

To recover and get a draw was a solid effort and it extended our unbeaten run to six games, but we should have gone on to win it especially when they were reduced to 13 men.

We need to be a lot more clever in games.

Taylor’s red card was definitely the right decision as you can’t expect anything else if you’re going to punch an opponent.

That’s the third sending-off we have had this season, Harry Dommett’s was also the correct decision, and although Eamon Chapman also picked up a red card it was rightfully rescinded afterwards.

We are looking to end the year on a high note with a win at home to Bridlington in the Yorkshire Shield on Saturday, 2.15pm kick-off.

We need to go back to basics and start well, which we didn’t do on Saturday afternoon.

The players want to win every game regardless of it being a derby or in a cup, but it would be brilliant to give the club’s very dedicated supporters a good game this weekend to round off 2014.

Apart from last week I don’t think anyone can say we are a dull side to watch as I always encourage the lads to play open, attacking rugby.
