Covid forces Filey Lions to call off a Christmas tradition that's been running for 25 years

Filey Lions have announced they will not be able to run their Father Christmas float this year.

The club says it is unlikely they would be insured to carry out what is one of their biggest fundraisers.

They have posted on social media: "Due to the current lockdown and the unknown procedure after December 2, we have had to take the decision to not take the Santa float out this year.

"Our insurance company has indicated that we wouldn't be covered if our district was anything higher than Tier One.

"This would have been our 26th year with one of our major fundraising events but we have to think about our own safety and the safety of the public within our community.

"Hopefully 2021 will bring us some sort of normality. Keep safe and well everyone please.

"We will shortly publish a Just Giving link on our Facebook page and website for anyone who would wish to make a donation.

"In the meantime we wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year."
