JUNIOR REPORT: Bumper weekend of rugby for club's youngsters

As expected rugby activity at the club was minimal on Sunday, but there is plenty to look forward to this weekend.

Our minis have plenty of matches to look forward to with our under-nines and under-12s away at Whitby, where they will also be playing against teams from Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, our under-sevens, under-eights, under-10s and under-11s will all be playing fixtures at home against Bridlington.

Our under-10s will also be playing against a touring side from Sheffield.

The under-sixes will also be joined in their training with players from Bridlington.

Our junior teams will also have plenty of action, with our under-13s hosting Malton at home, our under-14s and under-15s taking on Ilkley at home on Saturday and then Pocklington away on Sunday.

Our under-16s will be travelling to Billingham to play one of their final fixtures of the season.

The junior girls will be hosting Bridlington on Sunday too, with matches likely to kick off around midday.

The following week, Scarborough RUFC will be hosting another Active Youth Camp for children aged between five and 12.

The camps are specifically designed for children’s enjoyment, with a standard day consisting of a multitude of sporting activities and games.

The cost per child is only £10 a day (9am-3.30pm) which is fantastic value in the current economic climate.

The club has already started gearing up for its annual Breakaway Tours tournament which will be taking place on the April 16 and 17.

We will once again be hosting minis sides from all over the United Kingdom in a weekend of enjoyable rugby.

This year will see a few changes which will see fewer age groups in attendance and a slight change of rules.

But we’re confident we can put on a marvellous display as always and this will be open and free to the public.

I’d like to take this time to mention the club’s groundsman, Adam Flinton.

Adam has been working at the club for a number of years now, and is arguably someone who isn’t well known to our member base.

However, he does a fantastic job in ensuring our pitches are always well looked after and in a healthy state for our players to constantly train and play on.

This has been one of the harshest and wettest winters on record, yet we still have five pitches in fantastic condition entering the last month of the season.

He has also recently become a father so our heartfelt congratulations go to him and his family.

Finally, we’d like to wish all the players at our club and students around Scarborough the very best of luck in all of their exams following the Easter holidays.

Revision can be quite a stressful time so I would encourage all players to continue playing at the club during this period.

Exercise has been proven to assist brain function and it’s also always a nice break to get away with friends during this taxing time.
