LEE DOUGLAS: York defeat highlights my frustrations

The guys just didn’t seem to have the energy to put up much of an performance.
It was a lacklustre performance to say the least and York fully deserved to win the game.

Hide AdThey were an average side, but we never looked like creating much throughout the game.
We didn’t deal with their driving maul at all, they scored two tries from simple drives after line-outs which was very frustrating.
The game was lost in the first half and although we huffed and puffed more in the second half, we didn’t threaten.
One positive to come from the game was the performance of young Toby Welsby at scrum-half.

Hide AdWe’ve been playing him out of position so far this season as we have two scrum-halfs, but his performance on Saturday was pretty pleasing, he had a really good game.
We’ve slipped down the league table to sixth and the guys have to take some responsibility for that.
We have the teams below us left to play with the exception of Malton away, but while this set of players have the ability to beat anyone on their day, they also have it in them to lose against the lesser sides too.
That is a state of mind and it’s something that has concerned me since I came to the club.
We have a rest this week and we’ll do just that.

Hide AdSometimes when we have a weekend without a fixture we’d look for a friendly to work on one or two things, but we’ll allow the guys to rest and hopefully come back firing next week against Old Crossleyans.
It’s critical we come back with a strong performance and get a win against Crocs if we want to finish the season in a positive fashion.
If we want to finish strongly, we need to build up some momentum going into our final games of the campaign.
