The aim was to give the charity a helping hand to raise £11,000 – the amount it will take to pay for an extra day of care this leap year.

Little did we know the huge challenges that would await in 2020 – like nothing we had ever faced before.

The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the world upside down, affecting charities, businesses and people from every walk of life.

But throughout the pandemic, Saint Catherine’s has continued to care for patients and their loved ones, 24/7, both in the hospice and at home.

The charity is based in Scarborough but its services cover a huge area, along the coast and inland into Ryedale and the Driffield area.

Visiting has continued, with the protection of PPE, so families and friends can spend precious moments together.

The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that people are able to receive end-of-life care, free of charge, whatever challenges they face.

This specialist care costs around £6 million a year, with only a third available thorough Government funding.

The remainder is raised though the generosity of the local community – with the help of people like yourselves.

Without this support, the charity would simply not be able to do what it does.
