The occasion was filled with music, laughter and plenty of birthday cheer, with local ukulele band The Hunmanbees providing wonderful entertainment.
The catering team helped make the occasion extra special, serving delicious canapés and preparing some very special 100th birthday buns.
Plaxton Court was also honoured to welcome Mrs Venetia Wrigley, Deputy Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, who spent time with Barbara to mark her remarkable birthday and presented a birthday card on behalf of King
Charles and Queen Camilla.
Mrs Wrigley also took the opportunity to chat with Barbara’s family, friends and fellow residents, making the occasion even more memorable.
Amanda Sedgwick, General Manager said: “Everyone at Plaxton Court is delighted that Barbara has chosen to make her home with us.
“She is a truly remarkable lady and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate such an incredible milestone.
“Barbara’s birthday celebration is also a wonderful example of the opportunities that life in an Extra Care community can provide.
“Extra Care offers residents the independence of having their own home, combined with the reassurance of support when it is needed.
“It provides a safe, positive and welcoming environment where people can remain independent, build friendships, take part in activities and feel part of a community.
“At Plaxton Court, we want our residents to feel secure, valued and included, with opportunities to enjoy life and make the most of their later years.
“Barbara’s 100th birthday celebration was a perfect example of the wonderful sense of community that can be found here — and a very special way to celebrate an extraordinary lady and an extraordinary milestone”.
