As Mayor, I have had the privilege of seeing, at close hand, the quiet strength that carries Scarborough forward through every season.

It is found in the volunteers who give their time freely, in the charities who support those in need, in the fishermen who head out before dawn, and in the families and businesses who keep our town moving with steady determination.

This year has brought challenges, yet it has also revealed the remarkable character of our community.

We have seen new beginnings in our Town Council, a renewed appreciation of our heritage, and a shared commitment to shaping a Scarborough that is stronger, more confident, and full of opportunity for every generation.

From our harbour to our hilltops, from South Bay to North, my time as Mayor has brought me into contact with remarkable people.

Individuals who dedicate their lives to supporting others, offering guidance, friendship, and compassion where it is needed most.

From groups such as Dads Behaving Madly to the YMCA Theatre, and many more who work quietly behind the scenes, Scarborough shows a spirit of kindness that runs deep.

It reminds us that while the world shifts around us, the values that sustain a community remain constant: service, patience, responsibility, and the belief that tomorrow can be better than today.

The year ahead also brings something special to anticipate.

In 2026, Scarborough will mark Scarborough 400, celebrating four centuries since our town became England’s first seaside spa.

It will be a time to reflect on our history, recognise our achievements, and look calmly and confidently to the future we are shaping together.

As we step into the New Year, may we do so with hope and a shared sense of purpose.

Scarborough is a town of resilience, ambition, creativity and heart.

Together, we will carry that spirit forward and ensure brighter days lie ahead for all who call this place home.

I wish you all a happy, healthy and hopeful New Year for you and your families.
