Every weekend and seven days a week during school holidays the team of 11 ambassadors will work throughout Filey, Scarborough, Whitby and surrounding areas. They will greet visitors, provide them with information, signpost them to key landmarks and attractions, and help them to have a safe and enjoyable visit.

The ambassadors will also undertake visitor research and report back any problems they may come across such as street cleanliness and anti-social behaviour so they can be put right by the most appropriate service.

The council and Yorkshire Coast Bid are jointly funding the new team.

Cllr Jim Grieve, Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member for Quality of Life, said: “The Yorkshire coast prides itself on providing a warm welcome to the many thousands of people that visit every year.

“With people expected this summer that may have never visited the borough before or who may still be nervous of public places following the previous coronavirus restrictions, we want to go that extra mile to ensure everyone feels welcome, safe and knowledgeable about their surroundings.

“Our new ambassadors are hard to miss! They are wearing bright red shirts and jackets with our Discover Yorkshire Coast branding on them and are ready to welcome and help anyone who needs their assistance.”
