The engine failure happened off Whitby's east pier.

The crew were alerted at 8.56pm by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre to help the small leisure vessel just outside the entrance to Whitby Harbour.

The coastguard team found the boat around 100 metres off the East Pier where the boat's crew had managed to drop their anchor to stop them from drifting.

Whitby RNLI's inshore lifeboat was also called out but stood down when the boat's crew managed to resolve the engine issue themselves.
