The couple first met in the Grecian Rooms nightclub on Prince Street in Bridlington, where Phil asked Annette for a dance.

They were then married at St John The Evangelist Church, Sewerby on August 31, 1974. Their wedding reception was held at the Alexandra Hotel, where at the time, Phil was employed as Head Chef.

Shortly after, Phil and Annette departed to live and work in the Scottish Highlands.

After ten happy years, they returned with their two children Richard and Juliette to Flamborough, where they had bought Copperfields Restaurant.

They spent the next twenty five years running a successful business, with both Phil and Anette becoming a key part of the community.

Phil, an accomplished singer, performed regularly at Thornwick Bay Club. Both residents and holidaymakers loved to drop in to Copperfields for a cuppa and a chat.

Over the years, Annette and Phil were always there to lend an ear and give help and support to customers who became their friends.

Now retired and living in Bempton their lives are as busy as ever. Both Phil and Annette love their garden, keeping fit, music and spending time with their four grandchildren.

Phil's recipe for a long-lasting, happy marriage is "argue, sort it out and always say 'Sorry'-even when you're in the right!" Annette said: “Communication is so important. Always keep talking to each other".
