Car park plan for former gas showroom site

Thompson Homes want to create a temporary facility on the former Gas Showrooms site in Station Avenue.

Following the demolition of the showroom the site was earmarked for the future expansion of Filey Surgery so any change of use for the land cannot be permanent.

In plans lodged with Scarborough Council, the developer states that the car park would be able to hold 32 cars and is in prime position for the use of Filey Station.

The application adds: “After purchasing the site speculatively, as part of their normal land acquisition process, Thompson Property and their development company, Thompson Homes, have been unable to justify residential development of the site, as it does not meet the necessary funding criteria.”

The car park would operate until another permanent scheme is proposed.

The application concludes: “A car park will ensure that the site is maintained and usefully employed until better times may bring about a need for a worthier development of the site.”
