Could you complete a Sunrise Walk for Saint Catherine’s during September?

Saint Catherine’s has launched its annual Sunrise Walk – but in a different format to ensure the safety of participants.

The popular event, which last year attracted around 400 people, is usually held on a set date during September and features a 6.5-mile walk around the North and South bays in Scarborough.

However, due to Covid-19 and ongoing safety guidelines, it is not possible to hold a group event this year.

The charity is hoping that people will take part across the whole area covered by Saint Catherine’s, which includes Whitby, Scarborough, Ryedale, Filey, Hunmanby, Bridlington and Driffield – and beyond.

Saint Catherine’s is inviting supporters to do their own Sunrise Walk, with family or friends, at a location of their choice, on any day during the month of September.

Participants can set their own distance – and can even jog, run, cycle or swim if they prefer.

Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager, said: “We might be walking apart this year, but we are still united together with the aim of supporting patient care at Saint Catherine’s.

“We have continued to look after patients and their loved ones throughout the pandemic and our supporters have continued to help us, in many different and creative ways.

“The Sunrise Walk is our biggest and best-loved annual event, and we hope that despite the challenges we have all faced this year and continue to face, we can come together in spirit and share our sunrise stories, photos and videos.

“We can’t wait to hear from participants about their Sunrise Walk plans!”

By supporting the Sunrise Walk, you will be helping to ensure that patients and their loved ones can receive the most outstanding care – at the time when they need it the most.
