Couple's plea to Scarborough dog lovers to help their poorly Jasper

Dog owners have set up a funding page to raise £20,000 to pay for treatment for Jasper, who was a favourite with walkers on Scarborough beach.

Elaine Jakins and Steve Buckle, who recently relocated to Carlisle, have already spent £25,000 on vets' bills for the labrador and they are now trying to raise money for another operation that will hopefully give Jasper the chance to be pain free for the first time in his life.

Jasper has suffered from a young age with multiple health issues. He developed a limp at two and a half years old and has struggled with skin allergies and sores which have sadly led to hearing loss.

Elaine said: “We have never seen Jasper run or play with other dogs.

“He sits on the sidelines watching with a waggy tail unable to do the things he desperately wants to do.

“He is basically broken, he needs 2 back hip replacements and both front elbows and shoulders operating on.”

Jasper has been diagnosed with dysplasia, which is an abnormal formation of the hip socket, he has been on pain management medication since the diagnosis and Elaine and Steve have tried everything including hydrotherapy and holistic treatments to help Jasper to be able to play and run around like other dogs, but nothing has worked.

Just recently they have found a specialist vet that may be able to help and give Jasper this life changing operation.

Elaine said: “Out of sheer chance, we have suddenly had a complete and utter once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to take Jasper to see a specialist vet that can give him a life he has never had.

“We want to do everything in our power that we can to raise the money to give him the very best life he so deserves and to actually know what it's like to be pain free.”

Elaine and Steve set up the go fund me page and have raised £2,500 of their £20,000 target.

Elaine said: “We just can't do this on our own anymore. I'm sure people will think it's begging but to us Jasper is worth the fight.”
