Covid Reflection Service in Scarborough to remember lives lost and honour key workers

A special community Covid Reflection Service will take place in Scarborough to remember those affected by the pandemic, particularly individuals who were unable to receive a traditional funeral or farewell.

The service, organised with the support of local partners, will be held on Sunday March 8 at 2pm at St Mark’s Church, Coldyhill Lane, Scarborough.

It forms part of National Covid Reflection Day and will offer a time for remembrance, reflection and hope for the whole community.

George Roberts of G Roberts Independent Family Funeral Directors said the event is an important opportunity to acknowledge the profound impact of the pandemic on local families and communities.

He said: “The Covid pandemic touched every one of us in different ways, but for many families, the most painful part was not being able to say goodbye to their loved ones in the way they would have wished.

“Restrictions at the time meant that many people did not receive a funeral service or the chance for family and friends to gather and mourn together.

This reflection service is an opportunity for those families to come together, remember those they lost, and find comfort in a shared act of remembrance.

“It is never too late to honour a life and acknowledge grief that may still be felt.”

Mr Roberts also emphasised the importance of recognising the efforts of key workers and emergency services during the pandemic.

“We also want to take time to acknowledge the extraordinary dedication of our key workers, NHS staff, care workers, emergency services and volunteers who supported our communities through an incredibly challenging period.

“Their compassion and commitment helped so many people and should never be forgotten.

“This service is not only about loss, but also about gratitude, reflection and hope as we move forward together.”

The Covid Reflection Service will provide a welcoming and inclusive space for anyone in the Scarborough area wishing to reflect on their experiences of the pandemic, remember loved ones, and pay tribute to those who served the community.
