Doctor Who's Davros among star guests at Whitby Steampunk Weekend
A Doctor Who legend who played the doctor’s arch-nemesis Davros in the long-running sci-fi series is among the special guests as Whitby Steampunk Festival returns this weekend (Saturday February 7 and Sunday February 8).
Held twice a year in February and July at Whitby Pavilion, it is considered by many to be one of the largest steampunk events in the UK, with thousands attending this free to enter event.

Another exciting weekend is in store at each family-friendly event with a number of activities, presentations and demonstrations lined up as well as the Steampunk Retail Emporium.
WHAT IS AT WHITBY STEAMPUNK WEEKEND?

On February 7 and 8, there are two Trading Halls filled with an eclectic mix of the finest artisan Steampunk and Alternative Vendors with around 80 Trade Stands offering retail, entertainment and music.
DAYTIME ACTIVITIES AT WHITBY STEAMPUNK WEEKEND
Steampunk in general is a welcoming and creative community, with some very individual, unique and talented people willing to share their experience, creativity and craftsmanship.
Every event has daytime exhibitions, workshops, presentations and activities to keep you entertained, with live music from special guests The Antipoet.

This event, organisers are delighted to announce special guest appearance of a Doctor Who legend and BBC Radio The Archers stalwart, Terry Molloy.
An accomplished broadcaster, Terry has won several prestigious Radio and Audio Drama Awards.
In 1973, he joined the cast of BBC Radio 4’s The Archers as Mike Tucker, originally for five weeks.
Forty-plus years later, and ‘Mike’ was cast into the outer darkness of Birmingham, seemingly never to return to Ambridge!
Along with a wide spectrum of television appearances, he is perhaps best well known on the small screen to Doctor Who fans as Davros, creator of the Daleks, playing the Doctor’s nemesis in the classic series from 1983 to 1989, and continuing to voice the character to the present day, in many of the award-winning Big Finish Audio adventures, including the much acclaimed four part mini-series I, Davros.
Terry will be entertaining over the weekend alongside another artist, poet and author of note, Mr Paul Eccentric of The Periwinkle Perspective series of novels, and together they will be reading excerpts of their recent work together.
Other guest speakers of note, including Toby Virgo who will be reading tales from his Carter The Cabman series and The Victorians’ strange obsession with death, and Elizabeth Cheyne on the acclaimed photography work of Lewis Carroll.
The festival will also welcome esteemed inventor Dr Merryweather, who will be presenting his astounding new invention – the Tempest Prognosticator – a means of detecting storms by means of animal activity, as anyone who has seen the exhibit in Whitby Museum will know.
Dr Merryweather*, curator at Whitby Museum and member of Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society will be at Whitby Pavilion to explain his invention and the storm-predicting properties of leeches.
Photography group Thru The Lens and More will be running a photo studio in the Lower Hall over the weekend where you can pose and create a memento of your fabulous attire.
